DENVER — Gunfire was reported at Garden of the Gods park as a man allegedly used the majestic rock formations for target practice.
Colorado Springs police responded to multiple reports of gunfire in the area at 3 a.m. Monday. Officers investigated initial reports but were unable to locate the suspect. After additional accounts poured in, police returned to the region nearly an hour later and heard 100-150 rounds firing off in the south area of the park.
According to police, the shooter was 31-year-old Brandon Bougades, whom they cited on suspicion of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. Officials reported no injuries or damages, but were able to locate around 150 shell casings. Bougades, who offered no resistance to officers, was taken into custody, cited and released without incident.
Police report that Bougades used a semi-automatic handgun and a pump-action shotgun to blast away at two rock formations. Responding officers were nearly struck by ricocheting bullets, but luckily no injuries were sustained.
