DENVER — Authorities in Washington have arrested a man wanted in Thornton who is accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl.

Steve Allen Pierce, 35, was arrested in Everett, Wash. Around 10:40 a.m. Wednesday morning, said Matt Barnes of the Thornton Police Department.

Police believe Pierce sexually assaulted the girl, who is related to him, Sunday night in the 9100 block of Huron Street.

The girl was taken to a hospital Wednesday and that’s when investigators learned of the assault.

Pierce is a convicted sex offender who has a criminal history including failure to register as an offender in 2004 and 2005.

Thornton police are headed to Everett to interview him. Pierce is being held in the Snohomish County Jail until he is extradited to Colorado, Barnes said.
