COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A man accidentally shot himself while fumbling with a gun during a police traffic stop, Colorado Springs police said.

Police had pulled over a black Honda early Sunday near the intersection of 29th Street and West Platte Avenue when officers say they heard a single shot, according to the Gazette.

“Officer Csikesz observed the driver’s side door open and heard a pop that sounded like a gunshot,” police said in a news release. “The male driver then fell out of the driver’s seat onto the ground, stating he had shot himself.”

The man, 22-year-old Geordan Morris, was hospitalized. He was expected to survive.

He faces charges of drug possession and other crimes.
