ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — The Colorado Department of Transportation began a major road reconstruction project Monday night.
For at least the next few weeks, traffic lanes along Arapahoe Road at Interstate 25 will be reduced, dropping to one lane at midnight. Crews need the space to restripe and realign the lanes, including setting up concrete barriers and temporary lighting, all to prepare for the full-scale construction project.
Once everything is said and done, the $66 million effort will provide drivers with additional lanes through the congested stretch. The bridge will also be rebuilt,, and the interchange will be reconfigured and widened.
Lane closures will take place Sunday through Thursday. On those days, southbound Interstate 25 will be reduced to one lane until 5 a.m.
The work will continue through summer 2018.
