WELD COUNTY, Colo. — A truck carrying logs rolled over onto another vehicle that had four people inside it on Monday. The Colorado State Patrol says two people were pronounced dead at the scene and two others went to a hospital.
It happened at 5:15 p.m. at Colorado Highway 14 and Weld County Road 31 just west of Ault.
Highway 14 was closed Monday night and detours were in place because of the investigation and long clean-up time that crews needed.
The State Patrol says the female driver and a young female passenger were both killed. Investigators say the Semi was eastbound on Highway 14 where the speed limit is 65 mph. The pickup truck was heading north on WCR 31. Investigators don’t know if the woman driving the pickup didn’t stop at the intersection or didn’t see the semi.
The smaller truck was hit on the driver’s side by the semi. Investigators say they don’t believe the driver of the truck hauling logs was at fault.
The conditions of the two people who went to the hospital were not released.
