DENVER — People who attended the performance of “The Phantom of the Opera” Tuesday night at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts say the actor playing the Phantom left the stage abruptly during the play.

DCPA sent the following statement:

“Derrick Davis took ill last night mid-performance, and his understudy, Victor Wallace, stepped into the title role.  There was a brief show hold in order to swiftly transform Mr. Wallace into the role of the Phantom and continue the performance without further delay.”

DCPA could not say when Davis might return to the role and when asked if he was injured, a spokesperson responded, “the facts I’ve been told are that he took ill.”
