DENVER (KDVR) –The Dumb Friends League (DFL) says a severely burned and homeless puppy rescued before Thanksgiving has defied the odds and found a forever home.
Robbie, a 1-year-old Labrador retriever mix, was brought to DFL the day before Thanksgiving with severe burns from his head to his tail.
“They were probably the most severe burns I’ve ever seen. It was touch and go at the beginning. He was very thin, and we just didn’t know how his body was going to be able to bounce back from that kind of injury.” DFL’s Veterinary Services Team Lead, Judy Zane, shared.
The Dumb Friends League wasn’t sure Robbie was going to make it when he was first brought into the shelter.
“The skin became very raw and red, we had to put him under anesthesia just to change the bandages because it was so painful for him,” said Joan Thielen with the DFL. “In my time at the DFL I have never seen a dog with this severe of burns. He truly made an impact. It’s such a great example of how resilient dogs are.”
After months of treatment, Robbie made a full recovery and was adopted into a loving home.
“We wanted a dog, a young dog, not a puppy that was good with little kids, and then I randomly decided to check Dumb Friends League and Robbie was on there and sounded perfect for us,” said Dana Lahoff, Robbie’s new owner.
Robbie has been with the Lahoff family for about a month now and his condition continues to improve every day.
“I’m a social worker, so it was a perfect match,” said Lahoff. “His first year, who knows what that was like so for him to go through that, and to be the most loving dog, it’s amazing.”
