LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A teenage girl was killed when she was struck by a vehicle in Lakewood Sunday evening.

At 6:40 p.m., Lakewood police said its officers were at the scene of a major crash that was blocking the southbound lanes of South Wadsworth Boulevard south of West Virginia Avenue. The intersection is in the Belmar area.

Shortly before 7:15 p.m, police said that a pedestrian had died in the crash.

A Lakewood Police Department spokesperson said a group of teens was crossing west over Wadsworth. Two of the teens were somewhat separated from the rest of the group. One of those two was hit by a vehicle going southbound on Wadsworth.

The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver remained at the location and is cooperating.

The victim’s family confirmed to FOX31 and Channel 2 that she was 13 years old. She and her friends had just gotten out of a movie at a nearby theater.

Police are investigating the crash. They do not believe drugs or alcohol are involved.
