AURORA, Colo. — A pedestrian walking in a crosswalk was killed after being hit by a driver on Thursday afternoon, the Aurora Police Department said.

The crash happened at East Colfax Avenue and North Havana Street about 12:20 p.m.

When police and fire officials arrived, a man was found unconscious and not breathing in the roadway. He was taken to University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The name and age of the man were not released, pending notification of next of kin.

Police said it appears the man was walking on the west side of Havana Street in a crosswalk when he was hit by a vehicle going northbound while making a left turn onto westbound Colfax Avenue.

Police are still investigating who is at fault. The driver remained at the scene of the accident and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

Drugs, alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors, police said.

Southbound Havana Street was closed at Colfax Avenue and westbound Colfax Avenue was closed at Havana Street. The intersection reopened about 1:40 p.m.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
