GOLDEN, Colo. — An overturned dump truck closed westbound Interstate 70 at Sixth Avenue on Sunday afternoon, the Colorado Department of Transportation said.

The overturned truck was leaking fuel as a result of the incident.

The impact of the truck appeared to cause damage to the guardrails on the bridge. CDOT had engineers on scene to evaluate the structure of the bridge.

The Colorado State Patrol said a Ford F-150 struck the dump truck that had asphalt in it. The truck overturned, spilling some asphalt onto the highway.

The driver of the F-150 was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, the Colorado State Patrol said. His condition was not known.

Officials advised alternative routes in the area.

The interstate reopened Sunday night.
