AURORA, Colo. -- A suspect is being sought after a male juvenile was killed in a shooting Monday, the Aurora Police Department said.
The shooting happened about 6 p.m. in the 4700 block of South Memphis Street, near South Buckley Road and East Smoky Hill Road.
Police said neighbors were performing CPR on the victim when officers arrived. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect is at-large. Police described the suspect as a white male in his late teens or early 20s. He is about 5-foot-10 and skinny. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and black jeans.
Police said people should avoid the area. Those who live nearby were asked to shelter in their homes. That order was lifted shortly before 8 p.m.
Police have not provided the victim's name or age. The homicide is being investigated by the Major Crimes Unit.
Police Chief Nick Metz expressed frustration over what he called senseless violence.
“We’re the ones that get called to come and pick up the pieces," Metz said. "This is a societal problem, and we are now coming into summertime when it is heating up quick. And we’re seeing violence all around our city. We’re seeing violence all around our region. And it’s senseless.”
