FORT COLLINS, Colo. (KDVR) — The Fort Collins Police CRASH Team investigated a deadly crash involving a car and a bicycle Sunday afternoon.
Fort Collins Police responded to the intersection of South Lemay Avenue and Centennial Road at 12:51 p.m.
Officers found the cyclist, a man, who had suffered serious injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries. The cyclist was identified as 81-year-old George Rigby of Fort Collins.
A release said a 2006 Honda CR-V was northbound on Lemay Avenue while the cyclist was on Centennial Road preparing to cross Lemay Avenue.
The Honda CR-V hit the cyclist as he was crossing west.
FCPD said because of a stop sign on Centennial Road, the Honda CR-V had the right of way.
“Our thoughts are with all affected by today’s incident. We recognize the lasting impact something like this can have on families,” Sergeant Mike Avrech, who oversees the CRASH Team, said.
Northbound Lemay Avenue was closed for approximately four hours while an investigation took place, but has since been reopened.
