ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (KDVR) — An alleged armed suspect was shot and killed by an Englewood police officer on Saturday, the department said.

Police responded to a suspect with a gun at the Lucky U Motel at 4575 South Broadway around 12:45 p.m. The 911 caller said the suspect pointed the gun at him and threatened to rob and shoot him, according to a release from the Englewood Police Department.

The suspect fled when officers arrived, EPD Public Information Officer Scott Allen said in a news conference Saturday afternoon. Police encountered the suspect around Princeton Avenue and Broadway and he took off, starting a chase. Officers caught up to him near East Oxford Avenue and South Broadway.

“The armed suspect was shot by police, and suspect was transported to an area hospital,” Allen said. The suspect later died.

Police told FOX31 that the officer was not injured in the shooting.

EPD said at 1:26 p.m. that Oxford Avenue was closed between Broadway and Lincoln Avenue due to the shooting.

No further details were available and an investigation was ongoing.

The 18th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team will investigate the involvement of the officer in the shooting.
