FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- A Colorado State University freshman was seriously injured when he was hit by a car near the intersection of West Pitkin Street and Ellis Drive on campus on Monday night.

The CSU Police Department said Wednesday morning that 19-year-old Anthony "TJ" Avery had died of his injuries.

However, the university said Wednesday afternoon that Avery, who was hit by a vehicle driven by a 32-year-old woman, was on life support as of earlier that day and the process of donating his organs had begun.

The university released a statement saying it did not know the current status of Avery.

The driver was not injured. She is also a CSU student.

Police are still investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact CSUPD at 970-491-7141.
