COMMERCE CITY, Colo. -- A man was killed after being hit by a vehicle on westbound Interstate 270 on Thursday morning, the Commerce City Police Department said.

Police and the South Adams County Fire Department responded to a report of a body in the roadway in the westbound lanes of the interstate past Vasquez Boulevard about 4:15 a.m.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the man did not remain at the scene after the crash, police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The interstate was closed from Interstate 70 to York Street and a detour was put in place. It reopened at 11 a.m.

The vehicle involved has since been found and the driver has been identified.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

While police originally said there might have been more than one vehicle involved, they said there are no more vehicles or suspects outstanding.
