AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — The Aurora Police Department arrested a 21-year-old man allegedly involved in a triple homicide Saturday night.

Christopher Martinez was arrested around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday and is facing three counts of first-degree murder. Police said he was allegedly known to the victims.

“The senseless violence is inexplicable. Thanks to the efforts of our dedicated personnel, the suspect has been taken into custody and our community can breathe a collective sigh of relief. Our hearts go out to the family of the victims,” Aurora’s Interim Police Chief Art Acevedo said in a statement.

Aurora Police’s Public Information Officer Matthew Longshore said in a news conference late Saturday night that officers responded to a welfare check call at a house in the 1500 block of South Evanston Street around 5:15 p.m. They did not find anything suspicious, so they left the location.

At roughly 7 p.m., Longshore said, relatives were able to gain entry into the home and found two women and a man shot to death. There was no sign of forced entry.

Longshore said it is not believed the incident is a murder-suicide and at the time, did not know how many suspects may be involved.
