2 people killed in head-on crash on Highway 66 west of Platteville

WELD COUNTY, Colo. — Two people were killed in a head-on crash on Wednesday morning west of Plateville, the Colorado State Patrol said.

The crash between a 2008 Jeep and 2014 Ford pickup happened on a bridge over the St. Vrain River near Highway 66 and Weld County Road 17 about 6:10 a.m.

Highway 66 was closed in both directions but reopened about 10 a.m.

The crash happened about 5 miles west of where a train derailed after slamming into a semitruck in a crossing.

The names, ages and gender of those killed weren’t released. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
