2 children who were inside stolen car found safe; Denver police searching for suspects

DENVER — Police are looking for a man and woman who allegedly stole a car with two children inside early Wednesday morning.

Denver police say a red Toyota Prius was stolen near Meade Street and Fifth Avenue around 7:30 a.m.

Police say 2-year-old twin boys were in the backseat of the car when their mother ran inside for between 30 and 90 seconds pick up her older son and take him to school. When the mother came back outside, the car was gone.

When police arrived at the home, the mother explained what happened and told police her phone was still in the car. Police were able to use an app she had on her phone to locate the last location of the car, which was around nine or 10 blocks away.

Around 8:30 a.m., police were able to find the car. They say the kids were still strapped into their car seats and were safe.

Police are looking for a man and woman who are possibly driving a 2010 white Kia Soul. No license plate information has been provided.

The suspect’s descriptions are very vague; police say the man is taller and the woman is heavier set with purple or red hair.
