DENVER -- What was supposed to be Terri’s dream patio turned into a nightmare after she said the contractor Miguel Hernandez, with Hernandez Decorative Concrete, ripped her off for $9,000.

"He's a thief. He just steals money from everybody,” Terri said.

The backyard looks terrific now, but Terri said the family did almost all of the work themselves and the little work Hernandez did was so sloppy they had to redo it.

“My husband had to tear the whole patio apart,” she said.

Terri exchanged dozens of texts and messages with Hernandez over several months and said he always had some excuse for why the work wasn't getting done.  She also said the only thing he did right away was cash their check.

"As soon as he knows he's not going to be fed any more money, that's when he's done with you," Terri said.

Terri is not the only unsatisfied customer; the Better Business Bureau gave Hernandez Decorative Concrete an “F” rating.  The BBB said it has received so many complaints it has issued a consumer alert.

"We put alerts about those companies. There are numerous victims filing with us, thousands of dollars being lost and since there is a pattern of complaints, we want to put it out there this guy is being completely untruthful," a BBB representative said.

FOX31 Denver called Hernandez, who said he was not aware of the BBB alert. He did not want to talk on camera but said he always fulfills his contracts and would call the BBB to address the complaints.
