LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. – A woman fell to her death when she was hiking with family on Deer Mountain Saturday.

A spokesman with the Rocky Mountain National Park confirmed they received a call at 5:50 p.m. Saturday that a 50-year-old woman had taken a reported 40 to 50-foot fall on the north side of Deer Mountain. The Littleton woman was hiking with a family member at the time.

Park rangers said they found the woman’s body approximately three miles from the Deer Mountain Trailhead just after 8 p.m.

Park staff stayed at the scene overnight, according to park rangers. Recovery plans are taking place Sunday. The woman’s name has not been released.

The Deer Mountain Trailhead remains open, but the north side of the area is closed until recovery efforts are complete.
