AURORA, Colo. — Work on the new Interstate 225 light rail line is forcing the closure of major streets in Aurora for at least two weeks.

It’s a major project for RTD. The R line will run along I-225 from the Nine Mile Station north to Peoria, then connect with the A line to Denver International Airport. The R line will go south to the Lincoln station.

The line will connect the Aurora Mall, the Fitzsimmons medical campus and the Aurora Metro Center.

Construction of the line will force the closure of Sable Boulevard between Alameda and Exposition avenues so crews can complete paving operations.

Both directions of Iliff Avenue from South Abilene Street to South Blackhawk Street will close from 8:30 p.m. Thursday until 5:30 a.m. Friday.

The grand opening of the R line is set for the end of this year.
