DENVER — An Adams County man was sentenced to life in prison for the sexual assault and murder of a woman at a hotel in 2012.

Michael Earl Smith, 29, was given the life sentence without parole plus 12 years in an Adams County courtroom Wednesday, said Sue Lindsay of the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

He was convicted of first-degree murder, first-degree felony murder and sexual assault last week.

Prosecutors said Smith beat and strangled to death Krista Ann Boma, 34, in July 2012.

Boma was found in a room at the Valli Hi hotel. Smith strangled her using his hands and a belt.

Judge Mark Warner called Smith’s action “cruel, heartless and depraved.”
