JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A group of Jefferson County residents who didn’t want a halfway house moving into their area next to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds have gotten their wish.

After receiving feedback from the public, the Jefferson County Commissioners will not pursue moving its Community Corrections program along the West Sixth Avenue Frontage Road near the fairgrounds and the Foothills Animal Shelter, the county said on its website.

The halfway house currently is off Colfax Boulevard in Lakewood. On Saturday, a group of about 100 members of the Coalition for a Safe Fairgrounds protested the proposed move.

A planned meeting June 25 to discuss the move near the fairgrounds has been canceled.
