JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy was injured in a crash at the intersection of Highways 6 and 93, and 58th Avenue intersection on Friday afternoon.

Early reports said the deputy was T-boned by another vehicle while responding to a separate injury crash at Golden Gate Canyon.

The crash involving the deputy was large enough to close Highway 93 in both directions between Highway 6 and Washington Street. Five vehicles were involved, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.

Two marked patrol cars were going westbound on Highway 6 going through the intersection to northbound Highway 93.

Another vehicle, a Dodge Durango, was westbound on Highway 58 going through the intersection to westbound Highway 6.

The Durango collided with the right rear quarter panel of the Jefferson County sheriff’s O patrol vehicle, causing it to spin and hit a third vehicle stopped at the intersection.

The Golden Police Department arrived at 2:54 p.m., and the injured deputy was conscious and complaining of rib pain.

The sheriff’s office later said the deputy was transported to a hospital with injuries and is expected to recover.

The Colorado State Patrol assisted with the situation. As of 4:45 p.m. the investigation was nearly complete, and tow trucks had arrived to haul away vehicles and the intersection reopened.
