LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Icy and foggy conditions Monday morning were causing traffic issues across the Metro area, but especially in a repaved portion of 6th Avenue in Lakewood.
Two accidents were reported due to slippery conditions in Lakewood — one near the Kipling Street exit and another near the Sheridan Boulevard exit.
The accident near the Kipling exit involved a vehicle that ended up in the ditch on westbound 6th Avenue after spinning out of control. The wreck closed westbound traffic in the area while police worked to de-ice the road.
Those closures were still in place as of 6:30 a.m., with CDOT saying the closures were expected to remain in place “a little longer.” The closure was finally lifted around 7 a.m.
Police had also reported a condition-related accident on southbound I-25 near the Speer Boulevard exit around 5:45 a.m., and a rollover accident on the ramp from Broadway to westbound C-470 around 5 a.m.
Drivers were being cautioned to expect slippery and foggy conditions, with temperatures just over freezing to begin the day Monday.
