CARR, Colo. — A house that exploded in Carr was likely destroyed by residents attempting an extraction process to create marijuana concentrate, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday.
The explosion happened about 3:45 p.m. on Aug. 11 near 5th Street and Gray Avenue in Carr, which is about 31 miles north of Fort Collins, said Steve Reams of the Weld County Sheriff’s Office. Two adult males suffered serious burns, while a 7-year-old child suffered minor injuries, police said.
A search warrant was executed at the residence and deputies found evidence of marijuana being grown, along with a posted medical marijuana permit. The residents appeared to be making a concentrate such as hash oil or marijuana “wax” at the time of the explosion, police said.
So far, no charges have been filed against the residents.
