DENVER — A homemade explosive was found Sunday morning near a Colorado Springs park, police reported.

About 9:37 a.m., an officer responded to a call of a suspicious package. Upon arrival at the 600 block of North 24th Street, he found some sort of improvised bomb, CSPD said. Bomb specialists were called in to render the device safe. No one was injured and the package was disposed of.

Police were investigating who made the item and who may have left it near Thorndale Park. Anyone with information was asked to call CSPD at 719-444-7000.
