DENVER -- The holidays can bring plenty of stress but doctors say too much can open the door for health problems for your family.

Stress can weaken your immune system, leaving you vulnerable to colds and the flu and also slow your ability to heal.

Dr. Robin Fennimore of Rocky Mountain OB/GYN told FOX31 Denver, “if your body is stressed it's going to focus on surviving, so if you have a cut or injury ... that’s not going to be it's priority”.

Finding simple ways to de-stress include taking up hobbies that create emotional balance, getting plenty of exercise and enjoying a relaxing treat, like a good massage.

Many Denver spas are now offering relaxation therapies based on Ayurvedic medicine.  Spa Universaire offers a unique service called Shirodhara, which streams a warm fragrant solution throughout the scalp and forehead, relaxing the entire body.

Doctors say regardless of which method you choose, make time to take care of yourself  so you can properly care for your family.
