DENVER — A hit-and-run driver crashed through barricades during the Colfax Marathon on Sunday morning.
Lakewood police responded to a report of a man who appeared to be sleeping in a truck in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Wadsworth Boulevard around 8 a.m. Sunday.
When police went to contact him, the driver fled through the parking lot, hitting a couple of parked cars.
The driver then raced south on Wadsworth Boulevard, driving through barriers on both sides of Colfax Avenue and turning onto the marathon route, according to police.
Though the Colfax Marathon race was already in progress, fortunately, there was a gap in the runners and no one was hit or injured in the incident.
Police lost sight of the vehicle but later found the red Toyota Tacoma truck that the suspect was allegedly driving in the 1700 block of South Clarkson Street.
Investigators are looking for the driver and/or the truck owner, since the truck had not been reported stolen and police are unsure if the owner was driving the truck during the hit-and-run.
