AURORA -- An Aurora father says his family had a rude awakening Thursday morning when a car crashed through their home and into the children’s bedroom.
This happened in the middle of the night in the 3800 block of S. Uravan St.
Kevin Mullen says that at about 1:45 a.m., an SUV crashed into his sons' bedroom. The driver plowed through a fence, hit the house, backed the vehicle up, did a U-turn in the backyard and then took off.
Mullen says his boys, ages 9 and 12 were in the room asleep at the time. They weren't hurt but what happened understandably shook them up.
On Thursday, the family received estimates to repair the damage from the overnight crash. Already the damage is expected to cost upwards of $16,000.
"You just pickup the broken pieces and move on, just be thankful you have your loved ones," said Kevin Mullen of Aurora.
The SUV involved is likely to have damage to both it's front and side as a result of the early morning crash. Witnesses tell FOX31 that the driver only stayed in the yard for a few seconds before fleeing the scene.
"It's just sad that somebody could come plow through your house and not even care if they hurt anybody or not," added Mullen.
He describes the vehicle as a dark grey Nissan Xterra-like SUV. He points out that it has dry wall on it.
Aurora Police say they're investigating a hit-and-run crash at that location, but they don't have much to go on.
Anyone with any information about the case is asked to call Aurora police.
