ELDORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The third day of searching Monday turned up no new clues into the disappearance of a 53-year-old man who went hiking in Eldorado Canyon State Park and was reported missing Saturday afternoon, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.
David Robles was last heard from at 1:15 p.m. Saturday when he said he was going to hike in the canyon. When he didn’t return as expected, he was reported missing around 6 p.m. and a search was launched.
He is described as 5-foot-10 with a light build and dark brown hair. It is unknown what clothing he was wearing or if he was prepared to be out overnight.
A number of agencies made up of about 50 searchers on the ground, three canine units, a helicopter and water rescue teams have searched for the man. The car belonging to Robles has been found, but nothing else.
“A little frustration for us and the family, but we’re going to continue the effort,” said Jay Stalnacker of Boulder County Emergency Services.
Robles' wife and two children are assisting in the search.
“Right now, we could determine with 90 percent certainty he’s not on the trail or near the trail,” Stalnacker said.
The park has been packed over the holiday weekend and that has helped and hurt the search effort.
“When you have canines involved and you have human scent everywhere and you also have trackers that are looking for your boot footprint, and then you have all these other people out here doing the same thing or attempting to, it gets complicated,” Stalnacker said.
The search will resume Tuesday.
