Tips help transition to outdoor workouts as weather warms

DENVER -- Spring begins next week and as the weather gets warmer fitness warriors are eager to step out of the gym.

Fitness experts say it’s important to take your time with your transition in order to prevent overexertion and injuries.

Trainer Ryan Lien of Push Gym creates workout programs for this clients that emphasize balance.

He says, “Running and cycling are cardio heavy but a lot of people lack the strength, so coming in and doing strength specific movements then slowly working other things  in works.”

Yoga and stretching exercises will help to prevent injuries like sprains.

Experts say you should make sure to eat a well balanced diet with lots of protein and drink 6-8 glasses of water a day, especially when it gets warmer.

If you are just starting to exercise, doctors say you need to have get a good check up first.

It’s also important to follow basic safety guidelines for exercising outdoors. Stay in populated, well-lit areas. Always let someone know which route you are taking.  Exercise with a buddy and carry a cell phone and mace.  Most importantly, use common sense.
