AURORA, Colo. — American Idol host Ryan Seacrest brought lots of excitement to Children’s Hospital Colorado Friday along with an incredible gift for the courageous kids there.

A Hollywood style red carpet event kicked off the grand opening of Seacrest Studios.

The 1,000 square-foot television and radio studio is located on the first floor of the hospital near the main entrance.

The idea is to bring entertainment to the hospital’s young patients and their families.

It was all made possible by a partnership between the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation and the Ryan Seacrest Foundation.  Medical experts say keeping spirits high is an important part of the healing process.

CEO Jim Schmerling says, “Music is a big part of therapy for our patients it creates a diversion it’s very therapeutic for kids.”

Seacrest, who enjoys incredible success as the host of Fox’s American Idol, says giving back is extremely important.

He explains how he came up with the idea to bring a studio to the hospital, “I talked to kids during visits to hospitals many years ago and they said we just run out of things to do we get bored … I just scratched my head and thought what could I do?”

The opening drew celebrities from Disney, Colorado Rockies alum Todd Helton and the band Lady Antebellum among others.

Children’s Hospital Colorado Ambassador Matt Roark says, “I just think it’s a great way to get their minds off of things and help them focus on the better things while they’re recovering.”

The happenings in the studio will be broadcast to patients’ rooms, providing those without mobility to enjoy the entertainment.

Riley Ljungdahl, another teen Ambassador who has spent time at the hospital says, “They won’t wake up and say I’m stuck in this bed I can’t do anything, they’ll say I can wake up and tune to the channel and watch everyone that’s coming.”

The new studio is destined to be a prescription for smiles, bringing some inspiration to kids who inspire all of us each and every day.
