DENVER — Two more restaurants received F’s in this week’s Restaurant Report Card.

Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar

Big Daddy’s Burger Bar in Aurora failed our Restaurant Report Card with 15 critical health code violations found during their September and March inspections. The recent violations include:

  • Flies landing on food
  • Employee not wearing gloves
  • Employee not washing hands
  • French fries held at wrong temperature

The restaurant invited us in for a look and the district manager told us about their new procedures.

“Moving forward it’s not going to be an issue,” Bryan Schosker said. “We are going to conduct kind of weekly self-audits. … We are going to have our own form and weekly our GM is going to take care of that and send it to me. Going back to what I said … proactive vs. reactive.”

Bad Daddy’s is located at 23955 E. Plaza Ave.

Pho 79

The Denver Pho 79 location earned an F with 17 critical violations in its October and April inspections. In October, a Denver inspector found:

  • Raw chicken and shrimp stored together
  • Chlorine sanitizer measured zero
  • Food tossed for being stored at wrong temperature

“In regards to our most recent inspection by the health department, although we did receive several critical violations from our most recent inspection, most of them were corrected on the spot within minutes of being cited,” Pho 79 said in a statement.

“For the other violations, we had a follow up inspection within 7 days to which the inspector was extremely satisfied with the necessary corrections made.”

Pho 79, located at 781 S. Federal Blvd., passed its follow-up inspection.

Carl’s Jr. — Greeley

The A goes to Carl’s Jr. in Greeley for two perfect health inspections in a row.

“Every day we come and try to do our best,” general manager Maria Jose said. “I have a great team. We don’t see this place as work. We try to see it as a second home. Just do our best.”

Carl’s Jr. is located at 720 10th St.

How restaurants appear on our Report Card

Restaurant Report Card airs on FOX31 News at 9 p.m. each Thursday and Channel 2 News at 4 p.m. each Friday. It features health inspections in the city and county of Denver, Jefferson County, Weld County and restaurants under the jurisdiction of the Tri-County Health Department. The Tri-County Health Department includes Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas counties.

An inspection is a “snapshot” of what is happening during the day and time of the inspection. On any given day, a restaurant could have more or fewer violations than noted in an inspection. Also, at the time of an inspection, violations are recorded and can be corrected prior to the inspector leaving the restaurant. If violations are not corrected, a follow-up inspection is scheduled.

The criteria used to give a restaurant a failing grade includes the evaluation of two unannounced inspections by county health inspectors. A failing restaurant must have five critical violations on their most recent regular inspection and five critical violations on the previous regular inspection. The restaurant may also fail for ten or more violations in one inspection. Health inspectors may conduct critical or follow-up inspections, due to the number of critical violations found during a regular inspection. Those inspections may also be considered for our reports. We recognize restaurants with two perfect regular inspections in a row by awarding them an A.
