DENVER — Two restaurants scored F’s on this week’s Restaurant Report Card after as many as 30 rodent droppings were found in unannounced inspections.

Baur’s Restaurant

Baur’s Restaurant scored an “F” on our Restaurant Report Card with 11 critical violations in its March 2016 and December 2015 unannounced inspections.  The health inspector’s report said, “Approximately 25-30 flying insects are hovering and landing on walls, ceilings and the bar top.”

The inspector also said, “Approximately 25-30 mice droppings were in several corners of the basement dry storage area and one rodent was in a control device or sticky trap.”

The inspection found an unapproved pest elimination device being used and an accumulation of fruit and trash were built up between the equipment and the bar.

Chef Dory Fiord said, “We immediately addressed and took corrective action to remedy all issues that were brought to our attention during the inspection. … We do not take the results of our inspection lightly.”

Baur’s Restaurant is on Curtis Street in Denver.

Jason’s Thai Asian Bistro

This Thai bistro was cited for 11 critical violations in its March inspection.  Among the violations:  20 to 30 rodent droppings near the sushi bar, an employee handled raw bacon and then peeled an eggplant without washing their hand, atd Tofu and wontons were held at unsafe temperatures that can cause food poisoning.

The health inspector ordered the staff to clean the restaurant or face closure. We stopped by the restaurant and an employee said, “We passed our next inspection.”

Jason’s Thai Asian Bistro is located on South University Boulevard.

CD’s Wings

The “A” goes to CD’s Wings in Westminster for back-to-back inspections with no violations.  This is the second time CD’s Wings have made our report card with perfect health inspections.  The first time was February 2015.

Ryan Schwarz the owner said, “We have a checklist every day and whatever manager who comes in and is in charge assigns an employee to the check list. Everyone knows what they have to do every day.”

CD’s Wings can be found at 7729 W. 92nd Ave.

How restaurants appear on our Report Card

Restaurant Report Card airs on FOX31 Denver News at 9 p.m. each Friday and features health inspections in the city and county of Denver, Jefferson County, Weld County and restaurants under the jurisdiction of the Tri-County Health Department. The Tri-County Health Department includes Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas counties.

Contact Heidi HemmatAn inspection is a “snapshot” of what is happening during the day and time of the inspection. On any given day, a restaurant could have more or fewer violations than noted in an inspection. Also, at the time of an inspection, violations are recorded and can be corrected prior to the inspector leaving the restaurant. If violations are not corrected, a follow-up inspection is scheduled.

The criteria FOX31 Denver uses to give a restaurant a failing grade includes the evaluation of two unannounced inspections by county health inspectors. A failing restaurant must have five critical violations on their most recent regular inspection and five critical violations on the previous regular inspection. Health inspectors may conduct critical or follow-up inspections, due to the number of critical violations found during a regular inspection. Those inspections may also be considered for our reports. We recognize restaurants with two perfect regular inspections in a row by awarding them an A.
