DENVER — Mayor Michael Hancock will break ground Thursday on a major improvement project for Brighton Boulevard in the River North District.
The project from 29th to 44th street will have better sidewalks, protected bicycle lanes, upgraded signals, new landscaping, improved utility systems and additional on-street parking, according to the city.
The project is being led by the North Denver Cornerstone Collaborative and Denver Public Works, and is in one of the city’s fastest-growing neighborhoods.
“The new Brighton Boulevard will serve as a northern gateway to downtown, a link to (Denver) and further stimulate the thriving River North District,” the city said in a news release.
The groundbreaking will take place at Great Divide Barrel Bar (1812 35th St.) at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
The first phase of the project is scheduled to be completed in late 2017 or early 2018.
The project is being paid with a “substantive contribution” from the RiNO Denver General Improvement District, the city said.
