Goodyear is voluntarily recalling about 40,000 tires due to concerns that the treads on the tires could separate and cause an accident.
The recall involves six sizes of “Wrangler Silent Armor” tires sold in 2009. The company estimates about 27,000 of the tires may still be in use.
Goodyear says the recall is in response to an internal review of early warning data that could indicate problems with the tires.
The safety recall is expected to begin on March 22, 2012.
