JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A Georgia man was arrested during a sex sting operation after authorities said he traveled across county with the intentions to meet an underage female for sex.

Officers arrested 52-year-old convicted sex offender James Lee Pierce, of Rome, Ga., during an undercover operation on April 17, said Pam Russell of the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Pierce made contact with who he believed to be a 15-year-old girl through the Internet on a social networking site Dec. 31, according to Russell. The 15-year-old was actually an investigator with the DA’s Child Sex Offender Internet Investigations.

During his online chat with the girl, Pierce said “I always like young girls” and “I don’t care if it’s against the law,” according to his arrest affidavit.

The arrest affidavit said Pierce requested naked photos from the teen and sent allegedly graphic sexual images of himself in return.

In March, Pierce reportedly said he intended to take a bus from Georgia to Colorado to meet the teen for sex, and also talked about bringing the girl back to Georgia with him.

Pierce left Rome, Ga. on April 15 and arrived in Denver April 17, the arrest affidavit stated.

He was arrested on charges of suspicion of Internet luring of a child, Internet sex exploit of a child and attempted sexual assault of a child, according to Jefferson County court documents.

The DA said Pierce is currently being held on a $20,000 cash bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court for a formal filing of charges Thursday at 10 a.m.
