FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Two months after passing an ordinance to place a 5-cent fee on disposable bags beginning in April 2015, the Fort Collins City Council voted Tuesday night to overturn the measurement, the Fort Collins Coloradoan reported.
The council voted 6-1 to repeal the ordinance after Citizens For Recycling Choices had collected enough signatures to bring the issue back up with the council.
The council could have put the ordinance on the April 7 ballot or call a special election but instead decided to repeal it.
The bag fee ordinance was passed Aug. 19 in a 5-2 vote. It would have put a 5-cent fee on disposable bags for all retailers in an attempt to reduce the number of bags in the city.
