Former Montrose deputy DA Mehlig pleads guilty to DWAI

MONTROSE — Former Montrose Deputy District Attorney John “Lou” Mehlig pleaded guilty this week to deputy DA pleads to Driving While Ability Impaired, the Montrose Daily Press reported.

Mehlig originally was charged with DUI and careless driving after being involved in a traffic accident in November while still with the 7th Judicial District’s district attorney’s office.

It was his third arrest for DUI in 23 years, the Grand Junction Sentinel reported, citing Colorado Bureau of Investigations records.

Mehlig was placed on administrative leave after the arrest and was “separated” from the office in December. He will be sentenced May 1.
