CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — A large barn was consumed by fire early Friday morning in the Castle Oaks area.

The blaze was reported about 2:45 a.m., firefighters said. Officials found a 5,000 square-foot barn fully involved with flames. Some 30 firefighters attacked the fire, extinguishing it in about 45 minutes.

The structure and its contents were a total loss. No injuries were reported, but 12 chickens were killed.

The cause was under investigation.
