DENVER — An intense fire struck an auto body repair shop in north Denver early Thursday morning.

Firefighters from South Adams County arrived on the scene at Mr. Mazda repair shop near East 57th Avenue and Logan Street about 4 a.m. and could only battle the fire from the outside because of its intensity and heavy smoke.

While fighting the fire, there was a partial roof collapse and several explosions the firefighters believe were from paint cans and propane tanks inside the shop.

At least five cars inside the shop were destroyed, and there were several cars parked around the shop, but it’s unclear if they were damaged.

It took firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control.

The owner of the business said there was a fire about midnight and firefighters put it out. But he said the fire started again at 4 a.m., but this time, it destroyed the shop.
