AURORA, Colo. — A $10,000 reward is being offered for locating a 6-year-old Aurora boy who has been missing since New Year’s Eve.

The search, being coordinated from Olympic Park, was intensifying late Monday for David Puckett after an Amber Alert was issued by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation on Monday afternoon.

Vehicles leaving the south Aurora neighborhood at the center of the search were stopped at checkpoints, while bloodhounds were working and federal agents canvassed the area.

The Aurora Police Department has been receiving support for what it still considers its top priority.

“We had over 100 law enforcement officers here [on Monday],” spokeswoman Crystal McCoy said.

At least 10 federal, state and local agencies have been contributing to the search for the boy, who is under 4-foot and weighs 55 pounds. Police said the search is still focused on a 2.5 mile-radius area.

“The next steps are we’re going to continue searching,” McCoy said. “We’re going to continue following leads. So again, your tips are important. Please call our tip line.”

An Amber Alert for the case was issued Monday. Police first requested an alert over the holiday weekend, but the CBI said without evidence of an abduction, the case did not qualify.

On Monday, the CBI said “out of an abundance of caution,” an Amber Alert was issued. Police said the cold weather was why the CBI issued the alert.

“We’ve been in consultation with CBI from the very beginning,” McCoy said. “What’s important here is [the alert is] out now, and it does nothing but help spread the message to find David.”

The public is being asked to search their properties, sheds, garages, abandoned cars — anywhere a small boy could hide.

Three tip lines are set up for the case: 303-739-1865, 303-739-1868 and 303-739-1870.

Metro Denver Crime Stoppers can also be contacted at 720-913-7867.

Police said Aurora Public Schools will have mental health professionals ready to assist students and staff at David’s school, Dartmouth Elementary School, on Tuesday.,
