DENVER — A man who is believed to have held up at least five banks in the Denver metro area in the two weeks has been arrested, the FBI said Tuesday.
Ronald Hedglin-Neidhart, 34, was the so-called “Check Yourself Bandit” and was apprehended Monday night. Police said Neidhart wrote demand notes on the back of other people’s old checks. He never showed a weapon, but the notes were threatening to the tellers.
The FBI said after his arrest, Hedglin-Neidhart allegedly confessed to robbing the five banks in Denver, Lakewood and Littleton since Feb. 24: First Bank (1316 E. Evans Ave.) on Feb. 24; US Bank (1248 S. Broadway) on Feb. 26; Wells Fargo (1905 S. Wadsworth Blvd.) on Feb. 29; Wells Fargo (7580 S. Pierce St.) on March 5; and TCF Bank (2090 S. University Blvd.) on March 7.
Investigators are still looking for another person who apparently drove getaway vehicles. Anyone with information about that person or the vehicles involved is asked to call Denver Metro Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
