DEER TRAIL, Colo. — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a minivan while walking in an Interstate 70 construction zone on Tuesday morning, the Colorado State Patrol said.

A CSP spokesman said it is unknown why the pedestrian was in the construction zone of the eastbound lanes of the interstate at mile marker 322.

Eastbound I-70 was closed and traffic is being diverted onto Highway 40 at Deer Trail with no estimated time to reopen, the CSP said.

The driver of the minivan remained at the scene. The names, ages and genders of the pedestrian and the minivan driver have not been released.
