ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — A wrong-way driver was killed in a crash that involved multiple vehicles Monday night, the Colorado State Patrol said.

The crash happened just before 9 p.m. at University Boulevard and East Hampden Avenue.

CSP said the man was believed to have been driving at a high rate of speed southbound on University when he struck a brick wall, causing the vehicle to go airborne.

The driver was ejected and was not wearing a seat belt. The vehicle continued moving and hit two other cars before stopping on its side. The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Passengers in other vehicles were taken to a hospital but CSP did not say how many people were involved or what their conditions were.

The intersection was closed as the crash was investigated.
