AURORA, Colo. — A family of five was without a home after a fire burned their house to the ground on Wednesday.
The fire happened just before 8 a.m. at the mobile home at 16431 East Colfax Avenue.
The father and mother who live in the trailer don’t speak English, but we communicated with them through a niece who lives nearby.
Neighbors in this mobile home park say they are trying to do whatever they can to help out, but it’s going to be a rough holiday.
Family members piece together what’s left of their belongings.
Two days before Christmas, an early morning blaze sweeps through their Aurora mobile home.
“The dad had woke up and the furnace was on fire in the morning when he was leaving for work so he pulled all the family out and got everybody out to the street,” says Jeremy Lynch, a neighbor.
“I just heard ‘Is there anybody inside?’ It made me jump out of bed. I looked out and there’s flames coming out of that trailer,” said Lori Beyers, another neighbor.
The father, pregnant mother, a 10-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl all managed to escape unharmed.
“I just hear banging on my door and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, what is it,’ and my little cousin, he’s like in shock not knowing what to tell us and he’s like, ‘We need to call 911,” said Juanita Rosales, a niece of the family.
The father had only recently completely remodeled the mobile home, putting in new floors , cabinets and fixtures.
Fire investigators tell me they’ve ruled out a suspicious cause and are looking something inside a wall possibly triggering the blaze.
The family was getting ready to celebrate Christmas with relatives who live nearby.
“Right here around Christmas time, I mean they lost everything… everything they had for Christmas, all their kids toys i can see the son’s bike out here just charred,” said Jeremy.
Red cross volunteers on scene gave the family a voucher for a few nights in a motel.
“It’s just hard for my uncle, you know, but I’m thankful that they’re okay,” said Juanita.
Now two days before Christmas with no presents, few of their belongings, and a new baby on the way.
Neighbors say they are going to try to do something for this family.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
