Family evacuates home after deck catches fire in Lyons

LYONS, Colo. — A Lyons family awoke earlier than anticipated Saturday morning when Boulder authorities notified them their house was on fire and they needed to evacuate.

At approximately 12:40 a.m. Saturday, Boulder County Communications received a report of a structure fire at 4168 Ute Hwy. in Lyons, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said high flames could be seen from the back of the house when they arrived on the scene.

Immediately, deputies notified the family inside the home, who were sleeping, and informed them to evacuate the residence.

Lyons Fire Protection District, Hygiene Fire Department, Pinewood Springs Fire Protection District, Lefthand Fire Protection District, American Medical Response and Longmont Emergency Unit joined on scene to battle the blaze.

The fire was extinguished and contained to the back deck of the home, said deputies.

As of Saturday afternoon, Lyons Fire Protection District continued to investigate the cause of the fire, but did not expect foul play, said deputies.
