DENVER — A teen who escaped from a youth detention facility in Colorado died after being shot during a chase in California.

Officials say an officer shot 18-year-old Christian Valdez after he rammed two police cars at a gas station near Chico Sunday.

Police say he and a 19-year-old Jose Herrera had escaped from a facility in the Denver area.
