DENVER — While most of the metro area is still digging out from a blast of winter weather, a few animals at the Denver Zoo are welcoming the snow.
The polar bear was outside enjoying the cold, hanging out by his swimming pool Tuesday afternoon. The snow leopard and tiger were also outside and active. Most of the rest of the zoo’s animals had to be kept inside because of the cold temperatures.
There were only seven visitors at the zoo on Tuesday. A pair of friends visiting Denver from Texas said the snow made for a unique day at one of Denver’s most visited spots.
“Yeah, that was cool,” Alfonso Moreno said. “I just wish there were more animals out. They probably thought they were going to have the day off and then we showed up.”
The zoo had to close early Tuesday because of the snow. It plans to reopen Wednesday depending on the weather.
